The food is not bad at IPOH. We had roti bread 2x $15.90, 2x big three belachan (string beans, okra and egg plant) $40, calamari $20, sizzling lamb $23, sizzling beef $23, ikan bakar (mackerel fish in banana leaf) $26, tom yam seafood soup $18, pineapple fried rice $18, laksa mee $19, chicken wings $12, garlic ginger salmon $23 and a fried banana desert $9.50. Nothing stood out as great. It was acceptable food with okay service. The kitchen took a while to make the food as we ordered a lot.

I rarely leave bad reviews, but I am profoundly disappointed with this restaurant. As a Malaysian with an authentic Malaysian palate, eating at this Ipoh restaurant was a massive letdown. First of all, I seriously wonder if they even know what Nasi Lemak is supposed to be—because what they served was absolutely not it. The cucumber and acar (pickled vegetables) were incredibly stale. The meat portion was tiny, consisting of chicken mid-wings that were clearly leftovers repeatedly re-fried. To make matters worse, there was a mysterious dollop of something on the plate that had absolutely nothing to do with Nasi Lemak. The Prawn Mee soup was also exceptionally terrible; we left a huge bowl of it untouched because it was completely unpalatable. The moment we put down our forks, the waiter rushed over to clear the table, even though the bowl was still full. I have no idea why he was in such a hurry—maybe he knew how awful the Prawn Mee was and couldn't bear to leave it there for another second. The Wat Tan Hor (scrambled egg river noodles) was the only thing out of the three dishes that was barely edible. On top of that, the water they refilled for us was dirty and had a bug floating i

Ive been here far too many times over the past 6 years, but I’m only getting to writing a review now. This is one of the best Malaysian food restaurants and I travel from SF just to have it, so thats saying a lot. The dishes pack flavor, portion sizes are large and the food comes out very fast. I’m not vegeterian but prefer veggie forward dishes and even the meat dishes include them, which is a big plus for me.

Best Malay cuisine we’ve found in SF and the peninsula. It took a while for our food to arrive but it was worth the wait – everything we had was delicious! The chicken satay and nestum fish were the standouts. Can’t wait to come back and try more!

I grew up in Singapore and visited my grandparents in Ipoh, Malaysia 2-3 times a year and this place has decent food but is far from authentic. Cereal shrimp and curry mee were a must order, belacan kankung was decent but oily, hainan chicken was good but didn’t taste like what we have from Singapore. DO NOT ORDER THE BAK KUT TEH. This dish is usually made with pork ribs, but for some reason we had pork leg that still had hair on its skin, and tasted stale. The broth also tasted stale. I complained initially but was brushed off, “It’s like that in Malaysia” NO IT IS NOT. The second time I complained they offered to take it off the final bill which was good. I am now having minor diarrhea and it may / may not be from the stale pork in the Bak Kut Teh. I appreciate the staff taking off the bak kut teh off the bill. However safe to say I’m not coming back.
